ACTIVITY LEVELS

To make the most of your trip, Finish Well recommends that your level of fitness, stamina, and overall ability match the activity requirements of the adventure experience you select. Throughout your preparation, we are available to chat and help set the right expectations for yourself. We want to make sure your adventure is fun, challenging and above all else, safe. This begins with you selecting the right adventure and then preparing for it correctly. We’ll help you every step of the way.

Active

Participants should have experience hiking or walking and be comfortable navigating uneven terrain such as loose rock, roots, and smooth rock slopes for up to 6 miles with elevation gains/losses of up to 2,000'. This trip is designed for participants who have a moderate level of fitness and enjoy active adventures. This trip is suitable for anyone who has a regular exercise routine that includes walking, biking, swimming or other aerobic activities for 30-60 minutes 3 to 4 times a week.

Moderate

Participants should have experience hiking and be comfortable navigating varied trails, moderate elevation gain up to 3,500’ and uneven surfaces for 6-10 miles, while wearing a daypack.  While our guides will provide planning, outdoor leadership, knowledge and insight, it is your responsibility to arrive physically and mentally prepared for your expedition.

Challenging

While endurance experience is highly recommended, novice hikers can train extensively for this trip, just like a marathon, and be well prepared and successful. Conditioning is key to feeling good on the rugged trails, uneven terrain and significant elevation gain (up to 5,000’). Challenging hikes in this category require strength and stamina and can take an entire day. Participants will be carrying their own daypack weighing 10-15 lbs at a high elevation up to 15 miles. Good cardiovascular fitness and muscle strength required.

Strenuous

Intended for those who practice endurance sport. Participants should be prepared for challenging terrain and prolonged physical exertion.  Participants will traverse steep and demanding trails with exposed and rocky terrain. Dramatic elevation gain and losses up to 6,000’ + covering 10-18+ miles. Hikes will be physically and mentally taxing, while carrying a daypack weighing 10-15 lbs. Extensive hiking experience and familiarity with difficult terrain is highly recommended. This is not a beginner hiking trip.
