OUR STORY

In 2017, Jeff Homan cycled 100 miles across the countryside of Southwest Michigan, competed in a ½ Ironman in Muncie, IN, water skied across Tennessee lakes, rock climbed in the world renowned Red River Gorge, KY, skied black diamond slopes in Park City, Utah, and was diagnosed with ALS.

At 38 years old, Jeff was delivered the devastating news that he had a terminal disease with an average life span of 2-5 years. ALS is a rapidly progressive disease that robs sufferers of the ability to walk, move, speak, swallow and eventually breathe. Imagine—trapped, inside your own body. It’s 100% fatal.

After diagnosis, the mentality of “finish well” was immediately implemented in all aspects of our life. We made the commitment as a couple and as a family to live well, suffer well, and finish well, despite our circumstances and to be faithful with what we’ve been given.

Together, Jeff and I co-authored the book “Finish Well”, written to our two boys. Anyone can start well, it's the finish that matters most! While ALS was the hardship we were entrusted with navigating well, the purpose of the book is the pursuit of finishing well in the midst of adversity.

Jeff passed away in August, 2022 after living with ALS for six years. He was the most beautiful soul I’ve ever known! Jeff loved life and his dream was for Finish Well to live on and have an eternal impact. He loved the great outdoors and we were always in pursuit of another adventure. Jeff encouraged our family to be involved in life, fully present, and to never stop exploring. Not even ALS could take that away from us. We spent 17 weeks on an epic road trip exploring 21 National Parks, fitting in a lifetime of adventures and experiences together. The healing power of nature is well documented and combining life-changing adventure experiences (that cultivate resilience, foster authentic relationships, and instill hope), with engaging breakout sessions (that help women overcome adversity, discover their inner strength, turn their pain into incredible purpose and make an eternal impact) is the perfect direction for Finish Well!

Jeff would often say, “If I can impact just one person’s life for eternity, it is worth it." It was the honor and privilege of my life to be his wife and it brings me great joy to spend the remainder of my life here on earth honoring him. Join Finish Well on the next adventure experience, as we work towards healing and building a life with eternal significance! God never designed for us to do life alone. Join us!

Tara
